Supporting Public Safety

Keeping Brook Park safe is the best way to ensure it remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

Councilman Thomas W. Dufour knows that safety is the foundation of a thriving community.

That’s why he’s worked closely with first responders, city officials, and residents to pass common-sense laws and provide the tools our safety forces need to protect Brook Park.

Strengthening Law Enforcement and First Responders

Thomas voted to authorize a new police contract—ensuring our officers are supported, respected, and fairly compensated for the crucial work they do. He also voted to approve new police vehicles, radios, and firearms, giving our department the modern tools necessary to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

Keeping Neighborhoods and Residents Safe

As part of his commitment to safer streets and walkable communities, Councilman Dufour:

  • Introduced and passed legislation requiring street vendors to clearly display permits, helping to protect children and families from unlicensed or suspicious activity.

  • Updated Brook Park’s parking code to increase penalties for abusing handicapped spaces, ensuring accessibility is respected and enforced.

  • Introduced an ordinance to increase fines on overweight trucks using residential roads as cut-throughs, helping preserve road conditions and protect neighborhood safety.

Addressing Mental Health and Prevention

Public safety isn’t just about police—it’s about people. That’s why Thomas introduced a resolution supporting suicide prevention training (QPR) to empower residents, city staff, and business owners to recognize signs of crisis and help save lives.

From stronger policing to proactive prevention, Councilman Dufour is working to ensure Brook Park is a place where every resident feels safe, seen, and supported. Re-elect Thomas W. Dufour and help keep public safety a top priority.
